Six Malow Junior High school students have been selected for a prestigious statewide honors choir.

Anijah Robinson, Kendall Bills, Kristina Bzhetaj, Mary Kotsonis, Alissa Thompson and Olivia Thompson will perform this January as members of the Michigan School Vocal Music Association’s State Honors Choirs.

The UCS students will join approximately 90 other singers from across the state for the Michigan School Vocal Music Association's 7-8-9 State Honors Choir at the Michigan Music Educators Conference, held in DeVos Hall in Grand Rapids.

The students qualified through an audition held during a Regional Honors Choir performance, held October 21 at South Lyons High School.

Students auditioned by singing by memory a Renaissance piece - written in 1560 - before a judge prior rehearsing for the regional choir.

The Malow Junior High School choir is under the direction of Julia Holt and Danielle Hill.

The State Honors Choir is comprised of the top singers in Michigan.

The students will now have three Saturday rehearsals across the state and a final performance as part of the Michigan Music Educators Conference in Grand Rapids. Approximately 9,000 teachers, administrators, students, speakers and guests are expected to attend the conference.
